FAQ

Why are you closed to applications?

We are a small organisation and can only give grants when we have the funds available. We want to avoid raising expectations when we are unable to help and will make our situation clear on the website. Please do not apply during this time. If you would like to be informed when we are able to take applications please email us with your details.

Who can apply for grants?

We can only accept grant applications for people who have been granted refugee status or humanitarian protection and are able to demonstrate that they are unable to meet the costs themselves. Please see our Grants page for further information on eligibility.

What can grants be used for?

Applications for grants can include all costs associated with the family reunion process. This can include whatever an individual case requires but is most likely to be legal fees and travel costs. Supporting documentation for these costs should be provided.

How can I apply?

Grant applications should be filled in by a referral agency or advocate. Further details on this can be found on our Grants page. Please only apply when our website states we are open to applications – we do keep this updated regularly.

Why do I need an advocate?

We only accept applications completed by advocates. This gives us some reassurance regarding the validity of the claim and ensures that all the details of the process are being fully understood by the applicant. For these reasons direct applications will not be accepted.

How are cases prioritised?

Cases are generally processed on a first come first served basis. Extraordinary circumstances will be considered and should be included within the application.

How long will it take to get a grant?

Grants are entirely dependant on our being able to raise enough funds. If funds are available we will check the documentation and aim to issue a response as soon as we can. We will keep applicants informed of the status of their application.

What does your work include?

We are a grant giving organisation. We do not campaign or provide advice. For information on organisations who can provide additional services please visit our Useful Links page.

How can I support the work of the Refugee Welcome Trust?

There are many ways you can support our work, donations are key to us being able to help people and if you have any fundraising ideas we’d be happy to hear from you.
